Why this blog...

I believe in evolution now. At least, that is how my nascent blogging experience makes me feel. I am enjoying it much more than I thought I would.

I had no clue at the outset about the direction I would want a blog to take, beyond defining a basic theme and motive underlying all of the entries. Now, I realize that there are other motives in play.

Writing, for me, has been a pastime that I enjoy. I have not written much; I am not that good at it, but, at certain times, it has been therapeutic.

A fun part of my blogging experience involves trying to evaluate if what I write is fit for public consumption. Often, it is not.

It is also challenging. Each entry represents my very best effort at the time. Nothing is published impulsively or quickly. Sometimes, that can be embarrassing. When someone reads a blog entry and asks, "Is that the best you could do?" The painfully honest answer is, "yes."

My spontaneity is usually in place where humor is involved... but in the midst of conflict or heated debate, I never feel later that my answers were adequate. By the time I work that out in writing, I think that I have responded more correctly and completely.

Sometimes I have written because I was lonely... just wanting to express myself and maybe find a kindred spirit along the way. I really enjoy that part! There are so many possibilities for this now than back in the Stone Age before we had Internet.

Also, I did set parameters for this blog with its first entry.  The desire to refresh, encourage, lift up other believers is always "right there" when I am writing. Whether I am any good at that, who knows; but I think that is the primary impulse driving it all.

Accidentally or on purpose, I can see that, unless I blow it with some loony entry (oops, too late, right?), the traffic from month to month could continue to increase.

How do I market my blog? Do I want to market my blog? Shouldn't it look more professional?

I have no eye for design or how my blog should look... for now, the only thing that has surfaced as a base criterion is that simple is ok... I want my blog to be about the words. And, I want symmetry in style and content with my blog in Spanish:  Refrescando los huesos...

Having said that, I would still welcome design tips from people who know more about that sort of thing.

Over the last few months, yet another possibility has occurred to me: if I do this well, it could turn into something of a legacy. Linda could link it to her Ancestry.com family tree. After I am gone, grandkids and great grandkids would have a way to know a little something more about me.

I hope that does not sound presumptuous. In the grand scheme of things, I expect that it will be a handful of people that ends up reading my blog. But you know what? Just the thought that what I record here might somehow be a blessing to loved ones after I am gone... good enough for me!
